Here is my Frequency modulation project. I had a bit of trouble making goood sounding sounds, so it took a while, and I made it into this small loop. Enjoy.
your pieces are lacking texture. What I mean by that is there is no "teamwork" amongst your sounds- no bass, or harmonic accompaniment. I hear a cool synth with a clap. The synth changes from one sound to another. Try experimenting with combinations of sounds. For example, would a bass synth add anything to the original riff? I think one long sustained note would fill out the bottom end and highlight the line you already have. You could chop that bass note and create a rhythmic variation later in in the piece, or apply an automation clip to a cutoff frequency.
